The Free Christmas Roof Program
Every year, Gotta Fix It Roofing gives a deserving family a brand-new roof, free of charge, through our Free Christmas Roof program. It is the part of this work we are proudest of, and it has become a Christmas tradition we look forward to all year.
Why We Do It
Bruce Hamilton has spent more than 30 years making a living putting roofs over people's heads, and somewhere along the way it became important to give one away to someone who could not manage it on their own. As Bruce puts it, "God blessed me in order to bless somebody else." A sound roof is something every family deserves, and once a year we get to make sure one more family has one.
How It Works
Each year we choose a recipient from nominations made by the community. Neighbors, family members, churches, and friends tell us about someone who needs a new roof and has no real way to get one, an older neighbor on a fixed income, a family knocked back by a storm, someone going through a hard stretch. We read through them, choose a family, and get to work.
A Roof for a Neighbor in Need
The families we have helped over the years are exactly the people you would hope to see get this kind of help. One past Christmas roof went to an elderly woman on the coast whose home had been battered by a hurricane, and her story was covered by the local news. It is humbling work, and a reminder of why a good roof matters so much in the first place.
